the story beginS

We are Anne & Miriam, two very good friends and both passionate storytellers in our professional lives. During the daytime we produce TV shows for Dutch television and in our free time we love to talk about our dreams.

After a visit to South Africa, Cape Town and its townships we got inspired to do something for these townships, especially for Langa. Despite the surroundings and conditions in Langa, the community has so much creativity, energy, positivity and strength. The people of Langa believe in the spirit of Ubuntu. This life philosophy inspired us to come up with a plan that is close to our hearts and the spirit of Ubuntu; in 2015 Project I AM was officially born.

At this point five out of six students have found a paid job in the tv industry and their lives have changed completely. They are now able to provide for themselves and their families and they inspire the younger generation in the township community. We are very proud of this succes and hope to see many more students following in their footsteps.

Ubuntu is an ancient African word meaning 'humanity to others'. It also means 'I am what I am because of who we all are'. Its best translation is "human kindness."

The core of ubuntu is that a person is a person through other people. Humanity is a quality we owe to each other.  "We are because you are, and since you are, definitely I am”.

I AM stands for; I AM everything I dream of.

Township teenagers are looking for a chance to follow their dreams, they want to become what they dream of becoming. Project I AM believes that if we join forces and share knowledge we can inspire and empower them. By creating positive experiences, we help them pursue their dreams.
